Overview

From problem framing to a resolved design.

inCare was developed around the interaction between nurses, patients, and a high-complexity hospital bed. The project addressed repeated-strain risks, emergency access, visual openness, safety, and the challenge of turning an expressive form into a durable manufactured product.

The work progressed beyond concept design into detailed part development, full-scale prototypes, assembly with the bed frame, production preparation, and large-scale blow molding for major plastic components.

01

Ergonomics and acute-care interaction

Research focused on repetitive-strain issues for nurses, patient access, emergency actions, safety, usability, and the emotional effect of a highly enclosed medical environment. Design criteria translated those observations into more accessible components, open sightlines, and natural working postures.

02

Form and functional development

A broad sketch process explored the overall architecture, headboard, side rails, controls, handles, storage, and emergency functions. Individual parts were then refined against ergonomic and manufacturing constraints.

03

Engineering and prototyping

The manufacturing phase used T-Spline and Rhino for surfacing, Delcam for production preparation, SolidWorks for assembly, CNC machining for full-scale prototypes, and iterative fitting on the real hospital-bed frame.

04

Production and real-world use

The headboard and side-rail design moved to production using large-scale blow molding. The bed was exhibited at Iran Health and MEDICA in Düsseldorf, and the portfolio documents its use in hospital settings during the COVID-19 response in Iran.
